With a desire to energize each and every employee through coaching -
Launching the Coaching Culture Team
I would like to introduce the coaching culture initiative at SAP Japan, where I work.
SAP Japan is currently implementing a mid-term transformation program "SAP Japan 2023 Beyond
The slogan of the program is "From Japan to the world, more dynamic. The slogan, "From Japan to the world, further dynamic," is being formulated by employees in a bottom-up approach.
One of the pillars is the "People" pillar, which has a coaching culture sub-pillar.
The team was formed in June 2021 by a group of employees with a strong desire to creating coaching culture both internally and externally.
Each member of the team is sharing ideas and working together with the hope that coaching will energize individual employees, increase their engagement, and eventually help SAP achieve their company's goals. The team members are all active coaches and know all about the beauty of coaching.
Currently, our main activities are to distribute a newsletter and ask people who want to receive coaching and conduct coaching sessions.
So far, we have designed and distributed the following four newsletters
The first part of the announcement was titled, "Make every day more exciting for us through coaching," announcing the launch of the team and its activities to SAP Japan employees.
The second one was titled "Would you like to take a trial coaching? "introduction of trial coaching and in-house coaches.
The third article is titled "I actually received a coach! "and introduces the impressions of employees who have actually undergone trial coaching.
The fourth one is "What are your strengths? "and an introduction to the activities of the Strengths finder.
(The Coaching Culture Team is also involved in Gallup's Strengths finder initiative.)
Through these newsletters, we have received requests for trial coaching from 33 people and continue to provide coaching; since there are 1,300 employees at SAP, this means that we have received coaching requests from 2.5% of the employees. At first glance, this number may seem low to some, but I have been a coach for about 2 years and 10 months now, and it is difficult to find people to coach, and the situation is the same for the network of in-house coaches outside of Japan. The team was also surprised at the large number of applications.
It has been one year and five months since our team was launched. The challenge continues. There are still not enough in-house coaches to meet the needs for coaching, and we would like to further spread the coaching culture by planning and conducting training courses to become coaches and organizing sessions for managers.
In Part 2, I will share with you the impressions of the employees who actually received the coaching.
Please look forward to it.
